Measures airflow (CFM) at each supply and return register to verify balanced HVAC distribution per California Title 24. Available as a standalone service or as a cost-saving add-on to any HERS inspection.
A flow hood (also called a capture hood or balometer) is a precision instrument that measures the actual airflow rate in cubic feet per minute (CFM) at each HVAC supply and return register in a building.
California Title 24 requires balanced airflow distribution in residential buildings. If one room gets too much conditioned air and another too little, the HVAC system isn't performing to specification — and you may have a compliance issue. Flow hood testing catches and documents this before permit close.
Flow hood testing is commonly required for new residential construction projects where the HVAC design specifies airflow distribution requirements. It may also be required as part of certain HVAC verification measures.
Flow hood testing is available as a standalone service or as an add-on when booked alongside a core HERS rating or HVAC inspection on the same visit. The add-on option is significantly cheaper — call us to find out how much you can save by bundling your services.
All airflow measurements are taken on-site and documented in your report the same day. No waiting for results — your compliance documentation is ready when we leave.
